Sports Council for Glasgow Annual Awards Event - Monday 14th November 2011 - Hailed as a fantastic success!!

The evening of 14th November saw the Sports Council for Glasgow Annual Awards Event being hosted at St. Andrews in The Square, right in the heart of the City.

Over 150 sportsmen and women, clubs and volunteers attended this sporting spectacular.

The theme of the Awards Event was very much about recognising the very positive impact that Sport can have on people and groups across Glasgow. Many of the Sports Council’s member clubs are situated in areas of social need, and the sports and activities that they supply to their communities provides great opportunities for people to get directly involved in Sport.

The Event also recognised sporting excellence at an individual and a club level and, just as importantly, recognised the fantastic effort that volunteers make to the sporting landscape of the City. Without such volunteers our sporting opportunities would be greatly reduced and sporting excellence would be that much harder to achieve.

We were honoured to have a number of key VIPs attending our Event to present our Awards, including Shona Robison [Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport], Robert Winter [Lord Provost of Glasgow], Councillor Redmond of Glasgow City Council and Dr. Bridget McConnell [Chief Executive of Glasgow Life].
