Glasgow Mets Volleyball Club

Club Promotion Day December 2011

This past December witnessed Glasgow Mets Volleyball Club, the current Scottish Champions, host a club promotional day at Glasgow Club Holyrood to assist with the rebuilding of their Junior Programme and raise the profile of the local opportunities to get involved in Volleyball.

The day was structured around the Club’s two National League fixtures welcoming Scottish Runners up Kilmarnock for promoted show matches featuring young developing junior club players supported by experienced supporting players.

Between matches the club hosted a come and try event for the local community to get involved and try their hand and arms at playing volleyball.

Initially the young people had the opportunity to practice their spiking with Scottish International setter Alan Krawzcyk. With Support from Cadbury’s Spots V Stripes the young people got to experience a 6 v 6 game on the match court.

“This was a great day for the club! We had great support from family, friends and the local community. The club would like to extend its thanks to all the partners who helped make it happen and the efforts of the club volunteers on the day”.

 – Vincent Lyle, Glasgow Mets Chairman.

A supportive crowed then settled down to watch Glasgow Mets 1st team take on a rejuvenated Kilmarnock team. This was a repeat of last seasons League Play off except this time  Kilmarnock piped Mets to the winning post with a 3 – 0 win.

The event was a great success in getting local people into Holyrood to witness the highest level of Volleyball in Scotland and the opportunity to try it out! The commitment of the volunteers involved within the Club in partnership with Glasgow Life Targets Sports Development ensured the event was marketed and promoted in the local schools and community. Many of the young people who turned on the day have been recruited into the club and experience the opportunity to be involved in Volleyball at local and national level through events and festivals. The event was made possible by the support of a Glasgow Life Community Grant which provided financial support to hosting the event.
