Major Archery Events held in Glasgow

Glasgow Archers hosted two major events in the Scottish Archery Association calendar this month with the SAA Outdoor Championships on 7th & 8th August and the Glasgow Open Shoot on the 21st & 22nd August.

The SAA Outdoor Championships had most of the 2010 Scottish Commonwealth Games team participating alongside many of Scotland’s other archers in near ideal conditions at Craigholme School Sports Complex in Glasgow .

A number of new Scottish records were established and also allowed a considerable number of competitors setting new personal best scores !!

A great weekend was only slightly marred by a reduction in the anticipated number of entries although whether the current financial climate contributed to this or not is conjecture.  Nonetheless, the slight financial loss created by this event was considerably reduced by the Sports Promotional Grant given by the Sports Council for Glasgow to whom we owe a debt of gratitude.

The Glasgow Open Shoot (again at Craigholme School Sports Complex) was also held in fair weather conditions although the very blustery wind did keep scores lower than had been hoped for.  Even so at least one new Scottish record was recorded !

Both events are open to all archers with various categories of bow types being represented. Indeed, as one of the few sports where disabled archers compete on the same level as the able bodied, archery is a great ambassador for sport integration and, on most occasions, can be accessed by anyone irrespective of their abilities.

The new banners depicting the logo and details of the Sports Council for Glasgow were displayed in various settings on the field and provided a colourful backdrop to the proceedings.  Again thanks are due to the Sports Council for their loan.
