Gladiator Weightlifting Club Profile of Lifters 2012 Jan - May
The Gladiator club has had a busy year so far, there are many more competitions to go through the rest of the year and many more medals to be won.

The club has been involved in some great competitions since the start of the year and a well done goes to the lifters that have so far made this year a great success with our British medal tally of 22 British Gold Medals and 5 Silver British medals, this does not count our successes in Scottish competitions and under 13 development competitions with a grand total of 72 medals for the club and all this before the end of May.

Early in the year we took down 17 lifters to the British under 13 Development Cup in Birmingham and came home with 13 Gold’s and 5 Silver medals so well done to them.

We had the British Masters in March in Lilleshall National Sports Centre in England and were represented by Martin, Amanda, Alan, and Douglas with all bringing back deserving Gold Medals for their efforts.

We also travelled to the British Universities and Colleges Championships in Leeds in March with – Colette – Haris – Tatenda lifting and again 3 Gold medals were won keeping up the momentum from the good start to the year.

Next competition was the British Juniors in Lilleshall National Sports Centre in England were we took Colette & Haris again we had Gold medal success with both becoming British Champions in the Under 20 and Under 23 championships.

We have had a few competitions in between the ones above and also after with most club members over 13 lifting in the Scottish Open that was held on 30th March in Glasgow Crossfits Spartans weightlifting club and most again got a medal of some kind.

The club will also take 13 young under 13s and 1 youth lifter to Pitlochry in May 19th for a dev comp and Scottish Youth Championships representing the club and gaining valuable experience for British competition being held in June, so all in all things are looking promising for the club with development lifters and with progression of these lifters to be outstanding in the near future.

Gladiator WLC will also travel to Austria in June to compete in the International Fulda Cup held in Lochen, the club will take 8 lifters to this competition (Colette Will – Haris Ansari – Matthew Lavery and in the under 13s we will have Jason Epton – Charley Craig – Alex Richardson – Daniel Richardson – Joseph Kay ). This competition has been the highlight of the club in recent years in terms of the results we have had against many International clubs represented by many countries.

The British Under 13 Development competition we have organised for the 17th June will go ahead in Glasgow’s Easterhouse Sports Centre with 5 schools that Raymond and Martin have been teaching in thanks to the funding efforts of Alex. This competition was a huge success earlier this year and in June last year with lifters from 5 schools topping 26 and from that we had 13 Gold Medals – 8 Silver Medals – 3 bronze Medals.....Fantastic.

At the end of June, Ray – Colette and Tatenda will travel to Germany for the Women’s Grand Prix and will hopefully do well in what is the first visit to this International Women’s Competition.
The profiles below (not all results are included) are from 2011 & 2012 and includes almost all our club lifters from schools to Masters but not including our registered lifters in the 5 Glasgow Schools we teach in.
